How people agree to texts

Otpho appointment messages

Otpho texts people only about their own appointments. There are two ways to start receiving texts, and both say what you’re agreeing to before anything is sent: entering your own phone number on the Otpho app’s sign-in screen, or telling a business’s staff that you agree when they book for you by phone or in person.

One exception: when an owner or admin of a business invites you to join its staff and enters your number, Otpho sends you a single text with the invitation link. It is sent once per invitation (the inviter can send it again, at most five times a day), and you can reply STOP to opt out of more.

Entering your own number

Enter your own phone number on the sign-in screen and tap Send code. The wording under the phone number field is shown below.

Agreeing when booking on a business’s website

On the booking page, after choosing a time, people enter their name and phone number and may tick an optional box, which starts unticked, beside these words, with the business’s name. Booking doesn’t depend on the box. A sign-in code is sent either way, and nothing is recorded unless the box is ticked.

Otpho keeps a record of the agreement: when it was given, that it was given on the booking website, and which version of the words was shown.

Agreeing aloud to a business’s staff

When staff book for a customer by phone or in person, they ask for a phone number and read this script aloud, with the business’s name. They record the customer’s agreement in the app by ticking a required box, “The customer agreed to appointment texts from the business through Otpho.” Without the tick, the number is never used for texts.

We'd like to text you about your appointments with [business name] through Otpho: confirmations, reminders, and changes. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out. Do you agree to get these texts?

Otpho keeps a record of the agreement: when it was given, that it was given to staff, which version of the script was read, and which staff member recorded it. The customer’s first text arrives with no reply needed, and they can reply STOP at any time.
